Why do I get the message "The page cannot be displayed" when I try to access a secure page?

If you're using Windows, this error may occur because your Private Communications Technology (PCT) or Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security checkboxes are not selected. To correct this:

  • Click Start in the lower left corner of your screen.
  • Navigate to Settings and then Control Panel.
  • Double-click Internet Options.
  • Under the Advanced tab, look for the Security category. Check one or more of the following boxes: PCT 1.0, SSL 2.0, or SSL 3.0
  • Click OK.

If your system is configured to use a proxy server, open Microsoft Internet Explorer and try the following:

  • In the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  • Under the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
  • In the Proxy Server box, click Advanced.
  • Enter your proxy server address and port in the Secure field. (Contact your system administrator or Internet service provider if you don't have this information.)
  • Click OK until you've closed the Internet Options menu.

Note: Check with your company's IT department before changing your computer's settings.

Why do I get the message "Warning: Page has expired"?

Typically, you'll receive this message if you attempt to take action in a secure area after your secure session ends. For security reasons, we end your session automatically if you've been inactive for more than a few minutes.

The message may also appear if you use your browser's Back or Forward buttons to navigate through secure areas. We recommend against using these buttons to navigate.

Why does nothing happen when I click a link?

This is most likely due to your computer having ad-blocking software installed. These programs, commonly called "popup stoppers," prevent both requested and nonrequested pop-up windows from opening.

Vanguard uses pop-up windows in various areas of our site. Below are a few suggestions to help you access these areas successfully:

  • Uninstall the popup-stopper program.
  • Disable it when coming to our site. The program usually is viewable in the bottom right corner of your screen next to the time display. You may be able to right-click it and exit or disable it. When you restart your computer, it will start running again.
  • Hold down the Ctrl (Control) key when clicking a link or button that is supposed to open the pop-up window. In most cases, this will bypass the pop-up program and open the window.
  • Some pop-up programs allow you to enter website URLs for which you would like to allow all pop-up windows. Check the help section of the program or contact the manufacturer of the product to find out how to do this.

Note: Check with your company's IT department before changing your computer's settings.
