Retirement
For more than a decade Vanguard has conducted proprietary research exploring developments in defined contribution (DC) and defined benefit retirement plans, as well as emerging developments influencing the U.S. retirement system. Some of this research has been conducted in concert with leading academic and industry experts. The majority of this work is published under the auspices of the Vanguard Center for Retirement Research (CRR), which issues a wide range of studies assessing developments in plan participant behavior and retirement plan design.
CRR's work is designed to assist employers, consultants, policymakers, industry participants, and the media in understanding developments in the U.S. retirement system. It has collaborated with leading researchers at the Wharton Pension Research Council, the College of William and Mary, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, and UCLA. CRR publishes How America Saves, Vanguard's annual analysis of DC plan data. The report provides important insight into the trends and developments that characterize Vanguard-recordkept DC plans and serves as a valuable reference tool for plan sponsors and the marketplace. This flagship publication—and much of CRR's retirement research—draws on data from more than 2,200 DC plans with more than 3 million participants.
Vanguard's retirement experts are often asked to present their findings to domestic and international clients, consulting firms, and policymakers. They are respected speakers at national and international industry conferences and are valued resources for the business press and the retirement-industry trade press. They also participate in independent academic forums and webinars.
